About Tuckerman Reef

Tuckerman Reef was created as a resource for anyone with an interest in learning about efforts to conserve and restore coral reefs and the diverse species of marine life that inhabit them. The site aims to provide a concise synopsis of threats currently facing the world's coral reefs, an overview of organizations involved in coral stewardship, and promising restoration strategies and approaches. In addition, the site provides an overview of regulatory frameworks and institutions related to the protection of coral reefs in selected Caribbean countries.

About the author
Gunnar Baldwin, Jr. has had a life-long interest in marine life and began SCUBA diving when he was 16, with his first diving experiences in the icy waters of Maine. During high school, his interest in marine ecosystems was reinforced while participating as a summer student volunteer in a research study on coastal mangrove forests in Honduras. During this period he was fortunate to witness pristine, healthy coral reefs that were still unaffected by the factors that would devastate reefs around the world in the years to come. Later in his career, Gunnar studied law and received a J.D. from the University of New Hampshire School of Law (with bar admissions in New York and the District of Columbia). Much of Gunnar's work has focused on compliance and enforcement issues related to environmental & social impact assessment (EsIA) in the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region.

Creating awareness through art
Gunnar is now refocusing his work on creating awareness around the disastrous decline of coral reefs, hoping to employ his artistic skills (acquired during his undergraduate studies at Yale as an art major). He is seeking a gallery in southeastern Florida with the goal of using a portion of the proceeds (as yet to be determined) to help support an organization involved in coral restoration. The paintings can be viewed on the Coral Reef Art page.)
